Welcome
The Sunshine Garden aims to cultivate community by growing a garden together. It is a community gathering place where neighbours of all ages can come together to learn, grow and make new friendships. We also aim to demonstrate what a vibrant food garden looks like, to promote local food and urban agriculture.

How We Built the Garden
Vision and purpose
The vision of the garden is to: cultivate personal, neighborhood and environmental well being through a welcoming garden community.
The purpose of the garden is to:
The purpose of the garden is to:
- cultivate community through a welcoming, accessible neighborhood garden that provides opportunities for community partnerships
- fertilize environmental stewardship by raising awareness about sustainable urban agriculture
- pollinate educational opportunities by sharing garden experiences, showing children how food is grown, and demonstrating a vibrant food garden
- germinate healthy living by growing nutritious food, being physically active, and enjoying a peaceful place
Garden design
The garden design is inspired by the rays of the sun and includes 38 raised garden plots. Some garden plots are communal for crops we will grow together and other plots are available to individuals, families or community groups. Eight plots are 27" high to accommodate seniors or gardeners with reduced mobility. There are several fruit bearing shrubs and fruit trees in the garden. The garden also includes a shed, rainwater catchment system, composter, two picnic tables with umbrellas and two garden benches. The garden is a community gathering place, and is open to gardeners and non-gardeners alike!

Garden meetings
Garden meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of every month over Zoom 7 pm, and are open to all. At the meetings we discuss our garden plans, including what we will be growing in the communal beds, what programs we will offer, and how to organize ourselves to meet everyone's needs. If you are interested in gardening, like to share your gardening skills or want to learn more about gardening, please join us! If you are interested in growing your own food and sustainable urban agriculture please join us! If you want to meet new neighbours, like building community, and being part of an exciting community project, please join us! Our goal is to build community by growing a garden together.
